Last week Nikki Hanna posed a question about using props to photograph jewelry. It's my opinion that one walks a fine line when adding a prop to a potential photo. Meaning, you want the viewer to see your art first!
The "Queen" of doing this in my opinion is Iza Malczyk! Her art takes center stage every single time!
If you opt to use a vase, sculpture or display item, it's important to keep it in the same color family as your background. It plays a dual purpose, allowing you to see the piece and reduces glare. When there is a drastic contrast between your are, the display and the background you will get glare.
Do some homework, shop the more expensive jewelry lines in stores. They invest a lot of money in rolling out display pieces for their stores.
